I've recently read The Hound of the Baskervilles, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (by A.C. Doyle), the morbid story The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and the gruesome tale The Body Snatchers (by Robert Louis Stevenson), all written around the late 19th century.
